Happy Sunday!! I have a card to share with you today for another great challenge at Stampin' Sisters in Christ Challenges. The sweet and talented Randi Barrett is our host this week, and we are being sponsored by La-La Land Crafts. They are offering a wonderful stamp set to one random winner.

"And when they were come into the house, they saw the young child with Mary his mother, and fell down, and worshipped him: and when they had opened their treasures, they presented unto him gifts; gold, and frankincense and myrrh." Matthew 2:11

"Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you:
For every one that asketh receiveth; and he that seeketh findeth; and to him that knocketh it shall be opened. Or what man is there of you, whom if his son ask bread, will he give him a stone? Or if he ask a fish, will he give him a serpent? If ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children, how much more shall your Father which is in heaven give good things to them that ask him?"
Matthew 7: 7-11

Randi chose beautiful scriptures this week. These scriptures remind me that Christmas is all about giving. That is why it is my favorite time of year. I get so caught up in the spirit of giving to others and I love to see others' expressions when they receive a gift. I always try to give to the less-fortunate, because I am so blessed. I want to pass on my blessings to others. We should give as God so willingly gave us the best Christmas present ever - his son, Jesus Christ. I don't know how he made that sacrifice, but I'm so thankful he did. My prayer this week is that we may always remember the true meaning of Christmas and keep the spirit of Christian giving in our hearts.

The challenge this week is to make a card, layout, or other project that includes images of gifts or giving gifts.

Here is my card.

I used the Spa Key Ingredients from Taylored Expressions and the Birthday Chic set from Unity Stamp Co. I also followed a Taylored Expressions card sketch from a few weeks ago.

That's not all I have for you today. Oh yes, the fun is just beginning! Do you know who else *loves* Taylored Expressions? Lisa Hjulberg does!! In fact, it's her birthday today!

The Stampin' Sisters in Christ design team is throwing a special blog hop birthday party for Lisa today. One of Lisa's favorite actors is Johnny Depp, so I'm bringing a poster of him to the party.
Here ya go, Lisa! :)

Thanks for stopping by my blog today. I hope you liked my card and enjoyed my little celebration for Lisa. Your next stop on the hop is Ceal. Also, don't forget to stop by Lisa's blog and wish her a happy birthday!

Also, we'd love to have you play in our challenge at SSCC this week so be sure and check out all of the beautiful inspiration from our design team.

One Card = Two Challenges

I have a card to share today, and it's a style different from what I'm used to making. I tend to lean towards bright colors and girly things. I'm not sure if I'm very happy with the way this card turned out, but this is try #2. I trashed the first version.

I was asked to make a card for a little boy who is turning 3 years old. His party theme is Thomas the Tank Engine. I found this cute little digi Thomas online and colored him in with Stampin' Up watercolor pencils.

I made this card using this week's Mojo Monday sketch and I am also entering it in the Cupcake Crafts Challenge this week. The challenge over there is to use a digi stamp on your card.

Thanks for stopping by today! I hope you're having a GREAT week! :)

{SSCC #13} 1 Corinthians 13:12

Hi there! I hope everybody is enjoying the Friends of Faith blog hop! Peggy Sue has a wonderful challenge for us today at Stampin' Sisters in Christ Challenges. We are sponsored this week by Layers of Color. In case you didn't know, they are having a release party this weekend for their new Autumn 2009 stamp releases, and they are even giving away free digi stamps as party favors! Needless to say, we are so excited to have Layers of Color as our sponsor this week. Laura Campbell, the owner, will be joining us later in the week as our guest designer.

"For now we see through a glass, darkly; but then face to face: now I know in part; but then shall I know even as also I am known." 1 Corinthians 13:12

I may be totally wrong, but here is what this verse means to me: Here on Earth, we wonder about many things. People often question God and his judgment on things in our life. We also wonder about things in the Bible and perhaps there may be something in it that we don't understand. I think this verse is telling us that when we are in Heaven and we see Jesus face to face, we will understand everything clearly, and it won't be like we are looking through a dim glass anymore. The glass will be crystal clear.

It reminds me of the hymn, "We Will Understand It Better By and By."

We are often destitute of the things that life demands,
want of food and want of shelter,
thirsty hills and barren lands;
We are trusting in the Lord, and according to God’s Word,
We will understand it better by and by.

Trials dark on every hand, and we cannot understand
All the ways that God could lead us to that blessed promised land;
But He guides us with His eye, and we’ll follow till we die,
For we’ll understand it better by and by.

Temptations, hidden snares often take us unawares,
And our hearts are made to bleed for a thoughtless word or deed;
And we wonder why the test when we try to do our best,
But we’ll understand it better by and by.

By and by, when the morning comes,
When the saints of God are gathered home,
We’ll tell the story how we've overcome,
For we’ll understand it better by and by.

The challenge this week is to make a shadowbox card. You can find the directions here at Split Coast Stampers.

I will admit that I was a little intimidated by this card at first. However, once I started making it, I realized that it was a very fun card to make, and it was so easy! Don't be afraid! Everyone on the design team talked about how much we loved making these cards.

Here is the card I made. I used LOTS of Stickles. A girl can never have too much bling! :)

Hop on over to the SSCC blog and see all of the lovely things our design team created for you today. As always, there will be a prize for one random winner!

On a side note, yesterday my blog hit 50 followers. Wow. I never thought 50 people would be interested in reading about me. Thank you to all of you for your support and encouragement!

Thanks for stopping by today!

{Blog Hop} Thankful for Friends of Faith

Welcome to Scrapbook News and Review Magazine's A Faith Perspective Thankful for Friends Faith Blog Hop. Today, we're out in force on the internet -- showing our faith and giving the glory to God. United, we stand as Christian paper crafters and blog owners to make a presence on the internet for all to see. We're celebrating the theme of friends and we're happy to share our projects with you based on the verse:

"Two are better than one, because they have a good return for their work: If one falls down, his friend can help him up. " Ecclesiastes 4:9-10

If you're just joining in on the fun, you can find the start of the train by clicking here. First, we would like to take a moment to thank our generous co-sponsors: Layers of Color Stamps, Gina K Designs Stamps, and Sweet 'n Sassy Stamps. Together with Scrapbook News and Review Magazine, these companies have donated some wonderful prizes for today's blog hop.

Prizes? Oh, yeah! There will be three lucky grand prize winners for today's event. To enter, simply hop to the blogs of all of the participating staff members of Scrapbook News and Review Magazine, take note of the staff member's name, and leave a comment on their posts. Then send us an email at listing each of the staff members who participated in today's hop. It's that easy. All entries must be received by Monday, November 16, 2009 at 12 noon, EST and three winners will be randomly chosen to win.

What are the prizes?

In addition, every participating staff member of Scrapbook News and Review Magazine will offer a free one-month subscription to the magazine to one of their lucky visitors by simply leaving a comment on their blog. That's a lot of chances to win, so let's get to the hop!

For the hop, we were supposed to create a project based on friendship. Here is the card I created using a Unity stamp and BasicGrey Wisteria papers.

The next stop on this blog hop is: Jennifer.

{Update} Operation Write Home

The cards for Operation Write Home have started arriving from my friends at Stampin' Sisters in Christ Challenges. I feel like God is really blessing this effort of ours. Sandy sent a whole box of assorted cards, and I got cards from Kristine as well! I felt so happy that I almost cried. Thank you everyone for sending cards for Operation Write Home. I know that these soldiers will be so blessed by your thoughts. When I made this challenge, I prayed that everyone would send at least one card. I told God that if just twenty people would send one card each, then that was twenty more soldiers that would be encouraged by our thoughts and prayers. I never expected to get that many in one day...and the challenge isn't even over!

Remember, you have until Nov. 28 to send the cards to me, but the challenge deadline at SSCC is midnight on Saturday, Nov. 14. To see my original post about the challenge requirements, click here.

If you wish to send the cards to OWH, email me at candylou48 [at] gmail [dot] com and I will reply with my address. THANK YOU!

Be sure to stop by on Saturday. I'll be participating in the Friends of Faith blog hop...can't wait! :)

An Assortment of Cards

I've made several cards lately for different purposes, so it's time for one big hodgepodge post of cards. All of the cards were made using Unity Stamps.

This first one is a wedding card for a family friend. I love the way the emobssing added a special touch.

My aunt asked me to make an anniversary card for a friend of hers. I wanted to use my new Kitchen Spice paper that I got from Taylored Expressions. My aunt's friend grows fruit trees, so I thought this image from was perfect for her.

This is the first card I made using my new Janome Sew Mini. You can tell that my stitching wasn't very good at first, but it is starting to get a little bit better on my other cards.

This is a birthday card I made to put in my Etsy store.

Thanks for stopping by! I hope you've enjoyed looking at my cards. Have a GREAT day! :)

{SSCC #12} Operation Write Home

I am so pleased to be able to host this week's challenge at Stampin' Sisters in Christ Challenges. I've only been on the design team for a short time now, but I already feel so blessed. These ladies are so strong in their faith and they are extremely talented. The SSCC blog is a really encouraging place to be. With everything negative in the world, I need all the encouragement I can get.

The challenge this week is very, very special. You see, we're not just making cards this week. We are making cards for heroes.

John 15:13 "Greater love has no one than this, that he lay down his life for his friends."

I chose this verse and planned out this challenge several weeks ago. I had no way of knowing what would happen at Fort Hood last week. It hurts my heart to think of this awful tragedy. Given these recent events, I can't think of a more appropriate verse for the challenge this week. Isn't it amazing the way God works? It truly is a great love, that a man would lay down his life for his friends. The verse says "friends," but think about our soldiers who lay down their lives every day for US...people they don't even know. I am so grateful for the freedom I have because of their sacrifices. I sincerely thank all of you for your service.

I wrote this on the SSCC blog: There is a quote that says, “Only two people have ever died for you. One is Jesus Christ. The other is the American soldier.” That is so true. Jesus Christ died for us so that we might have eternal life. The American soldier died for us so that we might have freedom in this earthly life.

This challenge means so much to me, and I feel like there is so much I want to say and I just can't get it all out right, so I will just move on to the challenge.

The challenge for this week is to make a patriotic-themed card for a soldier and as a bonus, donate it to Operation Write Home, so that a soldier may be encouraged by your words of thanks. Write a special message of gratitude on the inside and sign your name. They will be distributed to soldiers who rarely get mail, or just need encouragement. Be sure to put your card in an envelope and write “Any Hero” on the front. For more information on how to make a card for “Any Hero,” click here.

Please note that it is not required to donate your card in order to participate in the challenge. However, I do encourage it! :)

Here is what I came up with.

The Extra Challenge
OWH also collects blank greeting cards (any theme) that soldiers may send home to loved ones. For example: birthday, thinking of you, hello, etc. Various holiday cards are also needed. According to the OWH website, “miss you” and “love you” cards are most requested by the soldiers. To read more about card themes needed, click here.

I’m sure we all have a lot of extra handmade cards in our stash. Won’t it be so special for a dad or mom serving overseas to send their child a handmade birthday card? What about a husband sending a wife an anniversary card? You can help them do that! Please consider sending a blank greeting card along with your card for “Any Hero.” You do NOT need to send an envelope, as long as your card is 4.25 x 5.5 inches (A2).

There are a few guidelines to go by when sending cards:
-Cards should be sized 4.25 x 5.5 inches (A2). The opening direction does not matter.
-If you use a dark cardstock on the background of a blank card for a soldier, please put a white/cream liner on the inside. The soldiers may only have a pen or pencil…not white gel pens.
-Do not use any glitter that might flake off the paper.
-Handmade cards only, please.
-Donations for shipping costs are needed. You can donate by using the PayPal button on the OWH website.

If you wish to donate your card to OWH, please email me at candylou48 [at] gmail [dot] com for my address.

I will compile a box of cards from all of the SSCC participants and will ship it to one of the volunteer shippers listed on the website. I will ship the box on Nov. 28, so that gives you plenty of time. I would love to send as many cards as possible on behalf of my Stampin’ Sisters in Christ!

I hope you'll join us at SSCC this week. We'd love to see your creations. We are sponsored this week by Paper Pretties and there is an adorable stamp set for one random winner. Hop on over and see the awesome cards the design team made this week!

I thank you in advance for your support of this wonderful cause.

{SSCC #11} Deuteronomy 31:8

Hi there! It's Sunday, so that means there's a new challenge up at Stampin' Sisters in Christ Challenges. Pamela is our host this week and we are being sponsored by Cornish Heritage Farms.

I'll be honest with you. Prior to this week, I had never heard of Cornish Heritage Farms. That's the awesome part about being involved with SSCC. Not only do I get the chance to work with an amazing group of ladies and glorify God through my paper-crafting, but I also find lots of new places to shop! :) So, of course I Googled first I was very confused because everything that came up said "Congestive Heart Failure." LOL! Then I tried CHF stamps. Jackpot!

After browsing their store, I found that they not only have stamps, but they also have cardstock, inks, and all sorts of tools. They have lots of rare stamps in stock, such as Elvis Presley stamps. Hop on over there and check out CHF. They will also be offering a stamp set to one random winner of the challenge this week.

"The Lord himself goes before you and will be with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged." Deuteronomy 31:8

This verse that Pamela chose makes me think of all the times in my life that I have been afraid of something. There was never any reason to fear. If I have faith, then I won't have fear. I definitely need to work on improving my faith, and also believing that God will truly take care of me if I give everything to him. He will always be with us. That is such a comforting thought. This is the perfect verse to encourage someone when they are feeling down, or just need a little boost of encouragement. I chose to use this verse on my card.

Create something about when God is "unseen". For example, a scrapbook layout that reminds you that God is always with you, a card to encourage a friend and remind them that God is with them, or something to hang on your wall.

Pamela has given us so much versatility with this challenge. You are not limited to making a card...just think of the possiblities out there!

Here is a very simple design that I came up with. I wanted to play with my new BasicGrey Indian Summer paper, as well as my new sewing machine. I'm getting a little better at the sewing.

I hope you'll join us this week at SSCC. We would love to have you participate in the challenge. Bring your friends! I am positive that you will enjoy it!

Before I go, I'd like to share a picture that I took last weekend. I had my window opened because it was a beautiful day outside. I noticed this beauty perched on the screen so I went outside to take a picture of it. He (or she) stayed perched there on the screen for about 10 minutes and was the perfect model for pictures. :) Here's some evidence of God's beautiful creations.

Have a beautiful day! Happy November!
